Total employment in the finance sector in Montreal ranks 6th in all of North America

Montreal’s financial sector was ranked among the best on the continent, ahead of San Francisco, Vancouver, Washington and Calgary.

According to a new report from the Conference Board of CanadaMontreal’s financial workforce ranks 6th in North America and 15th in the world.

The sector includes people who work in banking, insurance, asset management, and the stock market, among other fields.

From a national perspective, Canada has the second largest volume of venture capital
investments from all OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) member countries, at US$3.33 billion in 2019, ranking only behind the United States.

The report indicates that Canada’s financial and insurance services exports experienced the
“second fastest growing services export” over the past 10 years, growing over
$6.3 billion.

Canadian direct investment abroad in the finance, insurance and management sectors reached $692 billion in 2019, representing 50% of total Canadian outward FDI.
