ATLAS Scholars, Nonprofit Seeking to Transform the Financial Sector, Open Applications for 2022 Summer Cohort

CHICAGO, February 9, 2022 /PRNewswire/ ATLAS Fellows Inc. (“ATLAS Fellows” or “ATLAS”), a non-profit organization seeking to transform the financial industry by opening doors for bright, underfunded young people by giving them access to life-changing careers , today announced that applications are open for the second year of its career development program. The organization is poised to build on the success of its first cohort of 2021 students, which welcomed 17 students, with places for 25 scholars within the 2022 cohort. Applications are open to high school students with academic ability high standards, excellent leadership skills and intellectual curiosity who have a serious interest in a career in the financial sector.

Founded in 2021 with the support of Balyasny Asset Management, a global multi-strategy investment firm, ATLAS seeks to nurture a new generation of leaders in the financial sector by enabling young talents to unleash their full potential. ATLAS is led by the Executive Director Phoebe Andersona seasoned leader and former middle school teacher with over two decades of experience working in local and national nonprofit organizations, including the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA), Communities in Schools (CIS) of Chicagoand Chicago Public schools.

Through its programming, ATLAS seeks to overcome the four main barriers to successful completion of an undergraduate, post-graduate and career-readiness journey with a specific focus on financial support, real-world experiences, career guidance and the community. The program accepts students located anywhere Chicago, New York City and Teton County, Wyoming.

Throughout college and beyond, ATLAS supports scholars on their career development journey by providing access to:

  • Scholarships: ATLAS offers up to $20,000 one year of college financial aid. The Last Dollar Scholarship covers the remaining tuition after all grants and other aid have been applied. The scholarship is renewable annually, for up to four years
  • Internships: ATLAS Scholars receive four years of full-time paid summer internships at prestigious financial institutions beginning in the summer after high school graduation and throughout the summer between the junior academic year and senior of a fellow. Fellows are guaranteed a first-year internship at Balyasny Asset Management.
  • Mentorships: Each summer, ATLAS Scholars are paired with a mentor during their internship, offering one-on-one relationship advice, supervision, and personal and professional support. Fellows can continue to use mentors in the future for career advice and networking support. ATLAS also coordinates training and workshops that include personality and work style assessment, impostor syndrome, mentoring best practices, and office hours support.
  • Membership: The program does not end when scholars graduate. Fellows receive lifetime membership in the ATLAS community. Together, Scholars learn from and support each other, building relationships that last beyond college and into their professional careers.
